Preparing for IDC
Prior to beginning your PADI IDC, you want to ensure that you are adequately prepared and there are no surprises. OurPADI IDC Team are experts at getting you prepared so be sure to take their advice on board.
PADI Instructor Course Prerequisites
There are a number of prerequisites that must be met, prior to any participation in a PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC):
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- You must submit a medical statement verifying that you are fit for diving and signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
- Submit proof of CPR training within the last 24 months.The PADI EFR course fulfills this requirement.
- You should be a renewed PADI Divemaster or PADI Assistant Instructor, or a current Instructor affiliated with another certification agency.
- Prior to starting the IDC, you must have been a certified diver for a minimum of 6 months and logged at least 60 dives.
- Prior to attending the IE, you must have been a certified diver for a minimum of 6 months and logged at least 60 dives.
- Prior to certification as a PADI Instructor, you must show you have completed a PADI EFR Instructor course.
- You are required to provide photocopies of all previous non PADI diving certifications along with photocopies of your last five log pages.
PADI Instructor Course materials & Equipment
You will need to ensure that you have all the necessary materials for the IDC. Click the link to see the Required PADI materials.
You will also need to have a complete set of scuba diving equipment for the Instructor Course. You can view the list of required Dive Equipment. If you do not want to bring your own gear then you can rent dive equipment from Planet Scuba India. You will still need to bring items such as computers, dive knives, compasses, slates, torches, whistles, etc.
Pre IDC Study – Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance!
Prior to the start date it is required that you ensure that you have the right materials and equipment. Our IDC Team will gladly assist you to ensure that you are adequately equipped.
Your PADI Instructor Manual is one of the most important tools which you have with which to learn. You should be familiar with this and be current with any recent changes in standards & procedures, noting any changes in the latest issues of the Undersea Journal& Training Bulletins.
Complete ALL the knowledge reviews in the Instructor Candidate Workbook in the independent study section, prior to arrival for the IDC.
Test your diving knowledge by completing the Divemaster exams A and B again. Read through the Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving and complete the DM workbook. Prior to the IDC our IDC Team will further prepare you by conducting additional Theory and Standards exams during our 2 day IDC pre -prep course.
Your aim should be to know every right answer, and also you should know why every wrong answer is wrong!
Advice from the Team
If you have not dived for a while or are using new equipment -Go Diving! On the IDC and IE you want to concentrate on the task at hand and not on your equipment.
During the IDC and IE you will be performing and being evaluated on skill circuits, so your diving skills need to be at an expert level. The only way to achieve this is through practice. Try to assist on as many PADI courses as possible. Concentrate on the 20 skills from the PADI Divemaster Evaluation Slate.
Rescue diver exercise #7 should be practiced as often as possible because your rescue skills are practiced on the IDC and evaluated during your IE.
During the IDC and IE, you will be required to perform a rescue exercise. You should try and practice Rescue diver exercise #7.
